3D Architectural Visualization

A case study on the design considerations in Scandina Interiors’ 3D architecture visualization services

Explore How Scandinavian Interior Design Principles Elevate 3D Architectural Visualization

At Scandina Interiors, we specialize in bringing Scandinavian simpicity to life through photorealistic 3D architectural visualization. One of our projects — The Residence in Oulu — is a perfect example of how minimalist design, natural materials, and functional elegance can be translated into compelling visual storytelling. In this post, we’ll walk through the creative process and visualization solutions for this stylish Finnish home…

1. Simplicity with Purpose

Scandinavian design is known for its simplicity — but that doesn’t mean plain. It’s about intentionality. Every detail in the Residence in Oulu was designed with a function, a feeling, or a flow in mind. In our renderings, we emphasized:

  • Open-plan layouts that feel airy and unrestricted.
  • Minimalist furniture that anchors the space without overwhelming it.

Thoughtful placement of decor and textures to avoid visual clutter. The result? A peaceful environment that feels as good as it looks — even in a digital image.

2. Natural Light as a Design Element

Light is everything in the Nordics — especially during the dark season in winter. For this project, we paid special attention to:

  • Capturing soft, diffused daylight through large windows.
  • Recreating realistic shadows and reflections for depth and warmth.

Highlighting materials like pale wood and matte surfaces, which interact beautifully with light. Our 3D renderings aimed not only to simulate reality, but to evoke a mood — that quiet Scandinavian calm that light brings into a space.

3. A Neutral, Earthy Palette

The color story in this residence is a lesson in Scandinavian restraint. We leaned into:

  • Whites, greys, and warm beige tones for walls and upholstery.
  • Natural wood grains for flooring and cabinetry.
  • Occasional black or charcoal accents to ground the design.

In 3D, these colors must be rendered with nuance. Too flat, and they lose authenticity. Too saturated, and the mood is lost. Our photorealistic materials library helps us find that perfect balance.

4. Kodikas and Function, in Harmony

In Finnish design, there’s a beautiful word: “Kodikas”, which translates to cozy or homely, but it carries a deeper feeling of comfort, safety, and warmth — a sense of belonging. When visualizing the Residence in Oulu, we wanted to capture that subtle Finnish coziness that doesn’t rely on excess. That meant:

  • Layering soft textures — think wool textiles, wood surfaces, and warm-toned lighting.
  • Choosing furnishings with simplicity and soul — organic shapes and smooth lines that invite you to settle in.
  • Creating inviting corners that feel lived-in.

Our 3D visualizations don’t just show how a space looks. They communicate how it feels to be there — how it feels to be home.

5. Real Brands, Real Impact: Featuring BoConcept in Our Renders

One of the ways we bring authenticity to our 3D visualization work is by using real, well-known furniture brands in our scenes. For example in the Residence in Oulu project, we integrated pieces from BoConcept, a Danish brand renowned for its modern, Scandinavian aesthetic. And other Scandinavian style furniture as well.

By featuring actual products — not generic placeholders — our renders offer:

  • Real-world accuracy for architects and interior designers.
  • Visual consistency with your client’s preferred brand palette.
  • Inspiration for furnishing and styling the final built space.

Using brand furnitures and lighting fixture also allows us to showcase true-to-life textures, proportions, and lighting interactions — making each render feel even more photorealistic and grounded. Whether you’re pitching a project to a client or refining your design, these branded touches elevate the entire presentation. Find more from Scandina interiors’ 3D Architectural Visualization services
